The first time members of both bands met was at an Evanescence concert in 2018, which led Amy Lee to dig deeper into Within Temptation songs. [9] [10] Following a festival in Switzerland during the summer festival season of 2019 that both Evanescence and Within Temptation co-headlined on the same day, the two bands agreed that planning a tour together would be a great idea.
In December 2022, the band confirmed that the tour would continue into 2023. This began with the a series of shows in the United States throughout the year, followed by the announcement that the band would tour the UK and Ireland again in August and September 2023, most notably with headline slots at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. The tour was originally scheduled to start in North America in March 2020, followed by a series of European festival appearances, but it was pushed back to the summer of 2021, then to 2022 and again to 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic before many of the dates were cancelled.
