The Little Colorado River (Hopi: Paayu) is a tributary of the Colorado River in the U.S. state of Arizona, [2] providing the principal drainage from the Painted Desert region. Together with its major tributary, the Puerco River, it drains an area of about 26,500 square miles (69,000 km 2) in eastern Arizona and western New Mexico.

Fossil Springs, the head water of Fossil Creek, arises at an elevation of 6,510 feet (1,980 m) above sea level on the Mogollon Rim in Coconino County north of Strawberry. [1] For about the first 3 miles (5 km), the creek's flow is intermittent. [5] From high on the rim, the creek runs generally north, entering Gila County almost immediately.
The Rio de Flag, which has historically been known as the River de Flag [2] and San Francisco river, [3] is a river in Arizona that runs through Flagstaff, originating from the San Francisco Peaks before draining into the Little Colorado River. The river's age is unknown, though its first channels were around over one million years ago.
During dry seasons, however, the lake has a tendency to dry up completely. The lake is named after Mary Riordan, a daughter of the wealthy lumber barons who built the dam in 1904 for a water supply for Flagstaff.
