Playoff opponent: To be determined; first-round playoff bye. No. 2 seed: Buffalo Bills (13-4): The champion of the AFC East, the Bills lost in Week 18 to New England, but it did not affect their seed.
The NFL changed that rule in 2020, when it expanded its playoff field from 12 to 14 and began having the No. 2 seed face the No. 7 seed, the latter of which previously didn't make the postseason.
The NFL does not use a fixed bracket playoff system. The number 1 seed will host the lowest surviving seed from the first round (seed 4, 5, 6 or 7). See Current NFL Playoff system for more information.
