A year later, Voyages purchased Odyssey Tours and Safaris, Coconut Beach Rainforest Lodge and Ferntree Rainforest Lodge. Luxury resort, Longitude 131°, was opened in June 2002 under the Voyages banner. [1] In July 2004, Voyages acquired P&O Australian Resorts, adding properties in Tasmania, Queensland and on the Great Barrier Reef.
Negotiations for an Australasian tour started in October 1963, and Epstein signed on 10 January 1964 (a month before the Beatles’ American tour). The price had increased from £1500 to £2500 for a six-day week plus airfares and excess baggage for drums and amps. [ 4 ]
The tour included 248 concerts in 23 countries and 118 cities. [2] More than two and a half million people attended the tour. [3] With 900,000 tickets sold in Australia and New Zealand it was the biggest concert tour in Australasian music history, until it was overtaken in 2017–2018 by Ed Sheeran on his ÷ Tour. [4]
The tour was not associated with any album's release, but effectively was an extension of the Stones' infamous 1972 American S.T.P. Tour.The original intent was to play Australia and New Zealand, which had not seen the Stones since February and March 1966, as well as Japan, which had never seen the Stones at all.
