Kurt Thomas Busch (born August 4, 1978) is an American auto racing driver. He is best known for competing in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2000–2022, last driving the No. 45 Toyota Camry TRD for 23XI Racing .
Kurt Busch, driving the No. 97 car, won the 2004 Nextel Cup Series championship. Jimmie Johnson came in second behind Busch by 8 points. Jeff Gordon came in third behind Busch by 16 points. Kasey Kahne, the 2004 NASCAR Rookie of the Year. Chevrolet won the Manufacturer's championship with 22 wins.
Busch won 34 races in his 24-year NASCAR Cup Series career. In 2004, he became the first driver to ever win a championship under the first iteration of the playoff format NASCAR still uses today.
