The railway line was originally opened in 1862 and closed in 1971, but it was reopened by the West Somerset Railway on 28 August 1976. Doniford Beach Halt was opened on 27 June 1987 to serve the holiday camp built on the site of the nearby former Doniford army base.
The line from Minehead was reopened by the West Somerset Railway on 28 March 1976 and on to Williton on 28 August in the same year. Camp coaches once again grace the goods yard, where they provide overnight accommodation for volunteers working on the railway. [5]

A siding on the west side served the railway's nearby ballast quarry at Westleigh; this siding had originally been a 3 ft (914 mm) gauge line while the main line was 7 ft 1 ⁄ 4 in (2,140 mm). Both lines were converted at different times to 4 ft 8 + 1 ⁄ 2 in ( 1,435 mm ) – the main line in 1892 and the quarry line in 1899.
Stogumber railway station is a station in Kingswood, Somerset, England which serves the nearby village of Stogumber. It was opened by the West Somerset Railway in 1862 and closed by British Rail early in 1971. It was subsequently reopened in 1978 by the West Somerset Railway, a heritage line.
A former-GWR Autocoach is propelled (by GWR 4575 Class 5542) to the new Norton Fitzwarren station on the heritage-West Somerset Railway New housing in Station Road, on the site of the former Taunton Cider Company works. Norton Fitzwarren was the site of a boat lift on the now disused section of the Grand Western Canal from 1839 to 1867.
Williton railway station in Williton, Somerset, England, was opened by the West Somerset Railway in 1862 and closed by British Rail in 1971. It was reopened in 1976 as a heritage line . The locomotive workshops here are the headquarters of the Diesel and Electric Preservation Group (DEPG).
