Washington County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 United States census , the population was 23,514. [ 1 ] The county seat and largest city is Potosi . [ 2 ]

Cadet is situated in the middle of the old lead and barite mining region of Washington County, and is said to have had the last log and ash furnace in the area, still in use in 1864. [4] Cadet had its start when the railroad was extended to that point. [5] A post office called Cadet has been in operation since 1859. [6]

Summit is an unincorporated community in eastern Washington County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1] The community is situated on a ridge (elevation 1007 feet [1]) at the intersection of Missouri Route 8 and the Missouri Pacific Railroad line. Potosi is approximately 4.5 miles to the northwest on Route 8. [2]
