Aminoglycoside is a medicinal and bacteriologic category of traditional Gram-negative antibacterial medications that inhibit protein synthesis and contain as a portion of the molecule an amino-modified glycoside .
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that displays bactericidal activity against Gram-negative aerobic bacilli and some anaerobic bacilli where resistance has not yet arisen. It is generally not effective against Gram-positive bacilli and anaerobic Gram-negative bacilli. Neomycin comes in oral and topical formulations, including creams ...
Netilmicin (1-N-ethylsisomicin) is a semisynthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic, and a derivative of sisomicin, produced by Micromonospora inyoensis. Aminoglycoside antibiotics have the ability to kill a wide variety of bacteria. Netilmicin is not absorbed from the gut and is therefore only given by injection or infusion.
Aminoglycosides are a class of antibiotics. The most frequently used aminoglycosides include gentamicin, amikacin and streptomycin. These antibiotics are usually used in combination with other antimicrobial agents to treat drug-resistant organisms. For example, they are used with β-lactam for bacterial infections in pneumonia. [7]
Another group of beta-lactams, the cephalosporins, can increase the nephrotoxicity of aminoglycoside as well as randomly elevating creatinine levels. The antibiotics chloramphenicol, clindamycin, and tetracycline have been known to inactivate aminoglycosides in general by pharmacological antagonism. [9]
Nephrotoxicity is toxicity in the kidneys. It is a poisonous effect of some substances , both toxic chemicals and medications , on kidney function . [ 1 ] There are various forms, [ 2 ] and some drugs may affect kidney function in more than one way.
Gentamicin is a type of aminoglycoside [5] and works by disrupting the ability of the bacteria to make proteins, which typically kills the bacteria. [ 5 ] Gentamicin is naturally produced by the bacterium Micromonospora purpurea , [ 9 ] [ 5 ] was patented in 1962, approved for medical use in 1964. [ 10 ]
Plazomicin, sold under the brand name Zemdri, is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used to treat complicated urinary tract infections. [2] As of 2019 it is recommended only for those in whom alternatives are not an option. [2] It is given by injection into a vein. [2] Common side effects include kidney problems, diarrhea, nausea, and blood pressure ...
