Tukaraq is a small town in the eastern Sool region of Somalia. [1] The town is located on the road between Las Anod and Garowe in Las Anod District . [ 2 ] Khatumo State has had effective control there since 2023, but Puntland also has a territorial claim.
The Nugaal Valley is a key pastoral area which spans across four regions, Nugal and Bari in Somalia and Sool, Sanaag and Togdheer in Somaliland. Bo'ame (Somali: Boocame) is an ancient town in the eastern Sool region. [2] It is the capital of Bo'ame district which includes the small towns of Karin-gorfood, Fardhidin, Dan-Gudban, Caleeli, Buura-wadal and Garaca Dacare and Biriqodayaga. [3] Until May 2022, Puntland has had effective control, then Somaliland took over there. [4]
The governor of Puntland's Sool region, who was in Las Anod at the time, condemned the move, saying it would split the Harti clan. [ 6 ] In 2005, elections were held in Somaliland, in Yagori town, which is controlled by the Somaliland Armed Forces, but even within Yagori district there were places where elections were not held.
