The remodeled Cook Park Library reopened on January 8, 2011. As of 2015, the Cook Memorial Public Library District was serving 60,000 people in Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Green Oaks, and Mundelein. The library district continues to operate two full-service libraries, a digital/eLibrary collection, as well as a Bookmobile, and Outreach.
Fremont Public Library was established on Park Street and Lake Street in the village in 1955, [39] before later being moved to a larger site on Midlothian Road in 2001. [40] The old site, which was previously used as a barbershop, was sold to Mundelein Elementary School District 75 where it has been used as an administration building.
Interest in the library during its first years was high enough to fill its shelves by 1883 and warrant an expansion in 1885. Along with the expansion came reading rooms and available reserve stacks for the library's entire collection, but by 1900 the City of Aurora had grown to such an extent that the library again ran out of room. The new facility of what is now the Cook Memorial Public Library District opened directly behind the Cook House in 1968. [3] The building was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2001. [1] Today the Libertyville–Mundelein Historical Society operates the house as a Victorian house museum. [2]
Fremont Center is an unincorporated community in Fremont Township, Lake County, Illinois, United States. Fremont Center is located at the junction of Illinois Route 60 and County Route 65V, 4.3 miles (6.9 km) west-northwest of downtown Mundelein .
The library was originally housed in the Cook Mansion, after resident Ansel B. Cook's wife, Emily, deeded the property to the Village of Libertyville in 1920 for use as a library. [25] In 1968, a 33,000-square-foot (3,100 m 2 ) addition was added, adjacent to the Cook home.
The library serves a population of 60,000 residents. The Warren-Newport Public Library District began in 1971, when the Gurnee Women's Club began to look for a meaningful service which their club could offer the area. Opening day for the library came on January 10, 1973. The library opened its doors for 45 hours per week with 3,000 volumes.
