The remodeled Cook Park Library reopened on January 8, 2011. As of 2015, the Cook Memorial Public Library District was serving 60,000 people in Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Green Oaks, and Mundelein. The library district continues to operate two full-service libraries, a digital/eLibrary collection, as well as a Bookmobile, and Outreach.
The first library in Monroe County was established in 1820 in the courthouse. The Monroe Carnegie Library was dedicated in 1918. In 1965, the Bloomington Public Library merged with the Monroe County Public Library system. Library service continued in the Carnegie building until 1970 when the current building was completed.

Fremont Public Library was established on Park Street and Lake Street in the village in 1955, [39] before later being moved to a larger site on Midlothian Road in 2001.
