On June 26, 2005, at 3 a.m., Radio One made a major change in its Detroit cluster. The company moved the "Old School" rhythmic oldies format of WDMK (102.7 FM) to 105.9; 105.9 took on the WDMK calls and the "Kiss-FM" moniker, as the "Kiss" format was updated to a gold-based Urban AC.
WMOM is owned by Hit Radio Media, LLC. The station broadcasts live from a storefront studio windows at 206 Ludington Avenue in the historic section of Ludington, Michigan. Patrick Lopeman launched WMOM in 1999. The station was later sold 19 years later to Hit Radio Media, LLC and the new group officially took over in May 2020.
On August 24, 2017, Crawford Broadcasting acquired a Detroit AM station at 1200 kHz. It put the WMUZ call sign on that station, requiring 103.5 to add the "-FM" suffix to its call letters. As many of the Christian talk and teaching programs moved over to the AM station, WMUZ-FM increased its hours playing Christian Contemporary music.
