The Pantera was designed by the Italian design firm Carrozzeria Ghia's American-born designer Tom Tjaarda [4] and replaced the Mangusta.Unlike the Mangusta, which employed a steel backbone chassis, the Pantera's chassis was of a steel monocoque design, the first instance of De Tomaso using this construction technique.

The De Tomaso brand was acquired by Hong Kong–based Ideal Ventures in 2014, the same company who had acquired German automobile manufacturer Gumpert.Under the new management, work was started to revive the brand after a failed attempt in 2009.

Vincent Paul Abbott (March 11, 1964 – June 22, 2018) was an American musician best known for being the drummer and co-founder of the heavy metal band Pantera.He also co-founded Damageplan in 2003 with his younger brother, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, and was a member of Hellyeah for 12 years from 2006 until his death in 2018.
