The Arizona Historical Society currently houses a large collection of published and unpublished historical documents in its library and archives division. The artist Roy Purcell, who painted the ‘Journey’ rock murals in Chloride, Arizona was the first director in the new building and he developed many of the displays still in use today, including the Hualapai Indian room and the Mohave History room. The Museum expanded in 1979 with additional exhibit space.
In January 1880, Kingman's assignment was to survey and establish a railroad line from Flagstaff, Arizona to the Colorado River via Topock, Arizona. Kingman was in charge of the railroad contract work from Winslow to Beale Springs. In December 1881, Kingman was appointed chief engineer with a full charge of the railroad construction.

Kingman is a city in and the county seat of Mohave County, Arizona, United States. It is named after Lewis Kingman , an engineer for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad . It is located 105 miles (169 km) southeast of Las Vegas , Nevada, and 180 miles (290 km) northwest of Arizona's state capital, Phoenix . [ 5 ]
The jail serving the county in 2023, at 501 Historic Route 66 in Kingman, was built in 2010. It is a 688 bed county jail, about a half mile from the courthouse and 1909 jail. [7] [8] Both buildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. [1]
