She was Shah Jahan's favorite daughter and she wielded major political influence during her father's reign, and has been described as "the most powerful woman in the empire" at the time. [ 2 ] Jahanara was an ardent partisan of her brother, Dara Shikoh , and supported him as her father's chosen successor.
Parhez was born on 21 August 1611 in Agra to Prince Khurram (the future emperor Shah Jahan) and his first wife Kandahari Begum. Born on 30 March 1613 at Akbarabad, she was named Hur al-Nisa Begum by her paternal grandfather, Emperor Jahangir who adopted her as his own daughter. [1] She was the first of the fourteen children born to Prince Khurram and his wife, Arjumand Banu Begum.
She was a tutor to Jahanara Begum, Mumtaz's daughter, whom she taught the Persian language. Under her tutelage, Jahanara became a respected poet. [5] Sati-un-Nissa was an acclaimed reciter and teacher of Quran recitation. [6] Sati-un-Nissa was appointed as Sadr-i-Nath, an officer in charge of grants to the needy, by Shah Jahan. [7]

His mother was a Mughal princess and daughter of Parviz Mirza (son of Jahangir) and his first consort Jahan Begum. He was also the first grandchild of the then 43 year-old emperor, Shah Jahan. His paternal aunts included Jahanara Begum, Roshanara Begum and Gauharara Begum. His paternal uncles were Shah Shuja, Murad Bakhsh and Aurangzeb.
