The moss project seeks to find and remove the furry green typos that have been growing on Wikipedia articles. It uses a python script named moss and written by User:Beland to automatically find misspellings, mistakes in English grammar, violations of the Wikipedia:Manual of Style, and confusing or broken wiki markup.
The guiding rule should be to include words if they are more likely to be incorrect spellings than correct spellings even if it means that occasionally there will be false positives. Keep in mind some words could be corrected to multiple different possibilities and some are names of brands, songs, or products. These are just the most common.

Some of the creative spellings, like “pensol” for “pencil” may be due to the fact that the Murrays moved from the U.S. to the U.K. in 2019 and Lily now sounds a bit more British than American.
I treat each line that doesn't start with a space as a comment. That way there's no need for a special comment syntax. I use case-insensitive matches for the words in this list, so I can fix misspellings at the beginning of sentences. To fix case-sensitive misspellings and repeated words, I use an extended syntax where the first word is a PCRE.
