The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park is an open-air music venue in San Diego, California. It first opened in 2021, and is operated by the San Diego Symphony on the grounds of Embarcadero Marina Park South, which the symphony leases from the Port of San Diego. [1] The site is located on San Diego Bay in the Marina district of downtown San Diego.
It has a seating capacity of 2,248. When it opened in 1929, it had a seating capacity of 2,876. [2] The center was designed by Weeks and Day. In early 2022, the San Diego Symphony announced that Copley Symphony Hall at Jacobs Music Center would be renovated for acoustic improvements and a major stage remodel including a choral terrace.
Notable events hosted at the convention center include San Diego Comic-Con, TwitchCon, and the Society for Neuroscience. The upper floor of Golden Hall was used for temporary homeless housing in May 2019. [16] During the COVID-19 pandemic , the entire hall was converted into a homeless shelter. [ 17 ] It currently provides over one-third of San Diego's available temporary shelter beds, with over 500 residents.
