Dravidian languages include Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, and a number of other languages spoken mainly in South Asia. The list is by no means exhaustive. Some of the words can be traced to specific languages, but others have disputed or uncertain origins. Words of disputed or less certain origin are in the "Dravidian languages" list.
The canonical word order of Kannada is SOV (subject–object–verb), typical of Indian languages. Kannada is a highly inflected language with three genders (masculine, feminine, and neuter or common) and two numbers (singular and plural). It is inflected for gender, number and tense, among other things.
Some examples are the word kūsu which means "little girl" which comes from Old Kannada kūsu which means "little child/little girl". This word is not seen elsewhere in other Kannada dialects. The verb oragu in Havigannada means "to sleep" and is inherited from Old Kannada oṟagu; this verb is likewise not seen elsewhere in other Kannada dialects.
Mangaluru Kannada is one of the three regional varieties of Kannada language, an official language of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is also referred as the "Coastal dialect". The other regional varieties of Kannada are Bengaluru / Mysuru Kannada and Dharwar Kannada (Northern dialect). Mangaluru Kannada is spoken with clear diction.
Chettikulam: Lord Muruga granted darshan to Sage Againsthya as a bangle seller called Valayal Chetty. (Valayal-Bangle, Chetti- trader). Lord Muruga is also said to have guided Paranthaka Chola and Kulasekhara Pandiya and helped them quell the fury of Kannaki and calm her in the form of Madhurakali.
The language uses the Arabic and Kannada alphabets for writing.
