Oakland Military Institute, formally the Oakland Military Institute College Preparatory Academy, is a charter school run by the California Military Department's Youth and Community Programs Task Force [2] in partnership with the Oakland Unified School District in Oakland, California.
The center was relocated from Ft. Holabird, Maryland to Fort Huachuca, Arizona in 1971. The move involved more than 120 moving vans, a unit train and several aircraft. The initial intelligence training facilities were a World War II hospital complex that had not been occupied in several years.

The HISD board approved the renaming of the school to Leland College Preparatory Academy in 2014. [6] HISD built the permanent Leland school on the site of the former Carter Career Center, which once served as Wheatley High School and E.O. Smith. The new building used a similar architectural style to the original. [7]
