The Quarter Pony is a breed of pony that is similar to the American Quarter Horse. It stands up to 14.2 hands (58 inches, 147 cm) high and was developed from American Quarter Horse foundation bloodstock. The breed was originally developed from Quarter Horses that did not meet the American Quarter Horse Association's height requirement.
In the capriole (meaning leap of a goat), the horse jumps from a raised position of the forehand straight up into the air, kicks out with the hind legs, and lands more or less on all four legs at the same time. It requires an enormously powerful horse to perform correctly, and is considered the most difficult of all the airs above the ground.
A breed registry was founded in 1954, and within 15 years had registered 15,000 ponies. Today, the Pony of the Americas Club is one of the largest and most active youth-oriented horse breed registrie in the US. Although called ponies, POAs have the phenotype of a small horse, combining mainly Arabian and American Quarter Horse attributes.
Peppy San Badger's career as a sire had a large impact on the Quarter Horse breed. He was the all-time leading sire of the NCHA for many years up until 2003. [5] Peppy San Badger sired 2,325 foals registered with the AQHA in 19 seasons.

He earned a Race Register of Merit with the American Quarter Horse Association (or AQHA) in 1966 with an AAA speed rating. He earned $1855.00 on the racetrack.
