Daron Malakian (Armenian: Դարոն Մալաքյան; born July 18, 1975) is an American musician. He is the guitarist, songwriter, and second vocalist of the metal band System of a Down , and the lead vocalist, lead guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter of Scars on Broadway .
Mezmerize features guitarist Daron Malakian sharing most of the vocal work with vocalist Serj Tankian, splitting the vocals at least halfway on many of the tracks. Malakian wrote "Old School Hollywood" after playing in a celebrity baseball game for charity.
After the split, Tankian, Odadjian and Malakian formed System of a Down, named after a poem Malakian wrote called Victims of a Down. The band recruited drummer Ontronik "Andy" Khachaturian, an old school friend of Malakian, and Odadjian who had played with Malakian in a band called Snowblind during their teens.
