The 1996 GSX-R was a return to the original formula, with an emphasis on light weight, not just power. Weight was back down to an impressive 394 lb (178 kg). Even though later models also used the Suzuki Ram Air Direct system, GSX-R's from 1996 to 1999 became known as the SRAD models.
USA market models retained the oil-cooled engine and the USA 1992 model is basically the same as the 91 models with different graphics. A sleeved down version was available as the GSXR-600 for 92 and 93, both years were available with inverted forks. The 1992 GSXR-600 was water-cooled for the US market while the 750 had to wait one more year. [5]
The additional lower fairing, however, gives it a sportier look similar to that of the Suzuki GSX-R Series (though the Bandit chassis means that it carries 110 lb extra weight compared with a GSX-R), the engine has had a small amount of remapping to encourage revs, and the suspension is tweaked.
