Atascadero Colony Park Community Recreational Center Lake Nacimiento is an 18-mile-long (29 km) lake located about 23 miles (37 km) northwest of the city, up in the Santa Lucia Range. In addition to fishing and swimming, the lake provides ample room for waterskiing, wakeboarding, jetskiing, and other water-related activities.
Atascadero Lake is a 30-acre reservoir (12 ha) [1] in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. [2] Along with Parole Canyon, it is one of two major drainages of the Atascadero Creek - Mid Salinas watershed. The lake’s total capacity is 210 acre-feet (68 million gallons).
Atascadero Creek is the central channel of the Atascadero Wetland system, designated by the Army Corps of Engineers. It falls under increased protection with the 2015 “new rule” augmenting the 1972 Federal Clean Water Act. As a tributary to Green Valley Creek, Atascadero Creek and wetlands are part of the greater Russian River watershed.

Atascadero Creek forms in Atascadero Canyon just east of California State Route 154 (San Marcos Pass Rd.) in Santa Barbara, California. The creek runs south and joins Cieneguitas creek which flows into it from the east.
In 1963 the animals were moved to the current location adjacent to the Atascadero Lake Park, just off State Route 41, and the new zoo was named Atascadero Children's Zoo. [2] In 1979, the City of Atascadero took over management of the zoo after it was incorporated. The name was changed to Charles Paddock Zoo in honor of its founder in 1980. [2]
