Actually mild coarsening of the liver echotexture means that the ultrasound has detected that the surface of the liver seems to be hardening because of formation of fibrosis tissue in the liver. This usually occurs when there has been inflammation present in the liver for a prolonged period of time.
Hetergenous structure of liver in ultrasound or sonography is indicative of disease of liver. Commonest condition causing this are = diffuse cancer i.e metastasis, certain storage disorders , cirrhosis .
Hi. It means that the liver isn’t homogeneous. That parts of the liver differ. This is not diagnostic of any particular liver disease as it’s seen with many liver problems. Cirrhosis, hepatitis, fatty liver, etc. all cause this ultrasound picture. Then we look at liver enzymes, the patients history, do blood tests for various liver diseases.
Customer: My ultrasound scans showed Coarsened and heterogeneous liver echotexture . What does that mean Doctor's Assistant: I understand that you're concerned about the results of your ultrasound scans showing coarsened and heterogeneous liver echotexture. Have you experienced any symptoms related to your liver, such as abdominal pain or jaundice?
49 Year old male otherwise healthy has some heterogeneity of liver parenchymal echotexture without mass. The remainder of u/s normal. Impression suspect element of non-specific hepatocellular dysfunction. I don’t understand anything? The doctor is not worried but what does this mean? All blood work normal.
These descriptors mean normal! For one the homogenous echotexture means that the tissue of the liver is smooth as it should be. It does not have abnormal scarring or nodularity. Secondly the absence of a discrete mass means that there is no sign of a tumor. All of this is good news for you! I hope this information helps.
Inside the liver there are Intrahepatic bile ducts. These are part of the outflow system of bile product from the liver. Also common hepatic duct exits liver and joins → cystic duct (from gall bladder) forming → common bile duct In the report it means these tubes appear slightly dilated .
I had elevated liver enzymes so my doctor ordered an ultrasound which showed a heterogeneous mass predominately Dr.Anil M.B.B.S.M.D with over 30 years of experience in this medical field.
Increased echogenicity could be due to fatty liver. The hypogeneicity in the GB fossa could be due to focal fatty sparing. If the liver is shrunken then the altered and heterogenous echotexture could indicate cirrhosis of liver. Fatty liver = accumulation of fat. Cirrhosis = Scarred liver
