Victoria Elizabeth Schwab (born July 7, 1987) is an American writer. She is known for the 2013 novel Vicious, the Shades of Magic series, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, which was nominated for the 2020 Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel. [1] She publishes children's and young adult fiction books under the name Victoria Schwab.
The Guardian called Vicious "a brilliant exploration of the superhero mythos and a riveting revenge thriller". [3] It received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, which called Schwab's characters "vital and real, never reduced to simple archetypes" and praised the book as "a rare superhero novel as epic and gripping as any classic comic". [4]
On February 3, 2016, it was announced that Gerard Butler's production company G-BASE have acquired rights to adapt the book as a limited TV series. [ 4 ] However, a year later, on February 24, 2017, it was reported that a movie would be produced instead, [ 5 ] and that Sony Pictures won the movie rights, beating Fox 2000, eOne, and Lionsgate. [ 6 ]
First Kill is based on Schwab's short story of the same name. Schwab and Henderson co-wrote the episodes. [3] It is the first production from Roberts and Preiss's Belletrist Productions company. [5] [6] On April 21, 2021, it was reported that Jet Wilkinson is set to direct the first two episodes of the series. [7]
