Pecos is a village in San Miguel County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,392 at the 2010 census, shrinking slower than other parts of San Miguel County, partly because Pecos is within commuting distance of Santa Fe. [4] The village is built along the Pecos River, which flows from the north out of the Santa Fe National Forest.
In 1920, Regan was involved in the real estate business and as an oil operator in Pecos, Texas. He served on the Pecos City Council and as mayor of Pecos 1929-1932. He served in the Texas Senate from 1933 to 1937.
In 1941, Buddy Fogelson acquired the Forked Lightning Ranch along the Pecos River about 25 miles (40 km) southeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico on which he raised Santa Gertrudis cattle. Over time, he acquired adjacent parcels of land to swell the size of his ranch to 13,000 acres (53 km 2 ).
