Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (born 2 October 1951), known as Sting, is an English musician, activist and actor.He was the frontman, principal songwriter and bassist for new wave band the Police from 1977 until their breakup in 1986.
Since 1990, he has recorded and toured with Sting. [4] [5] He co-wrote the hit song "Shape of My Heart" with Sting. He released his debut solo album, First Touch, in 1995, followed by Second Nature and Third World. [6] In 2003 he released the classical album Shapes, with interpretations of Bach, Beethoven, Edward Elgar, and Tomaso Albinoni.
On 25 September 1976, [12] while on tour with the British progressive rock band Curved Air in Newcastle upon Tyne, in the northeast of England, the band's American drummer, Stewart Copeland, met and exchanged phone numbers with singer-bassist Gordon Sumner, a.k.a. Sting, [13] who at the time was playing in a jazz-rock fusion band called Last Exit. [14]
The 57th & 9th Tour was a world tour by English singer-songwriter Sting, in support of his twelfth solo studio album 57th & 9th. [1] The tour began on February 1, 2017, at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver and continued until October of that year.
Despite not featuring any hit singles, the album reached number 16 on the UK Album Charts [4] and won Sting a Grammy Award in 1988 for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male. Bring On the Night is also a 1985 documentary directed by Michael Apted covering the formative stages of Sting's solo career—released as DVD in 2005.

There was also an unofficial live album produced during the Ten Summoner's Tales era, entitled Meadowlands of Gold , which contained 13 tracks performed at the Meadowlands Arena on February 26, 1994, in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
