Sand Ridge State Forest is the largest area of sand-dominated plants managed by the state of Illinois. [1] A 2013 study of vascular plants found 141 non-native (exotic) species in the state forest. This forest ranges from the Cascade Range to the Siskiyou Mountains, and the Rogue River drains over 75% of the forest's area. There are parts of eight wilderness areas in the forest as well as what may be the world's tallest pine tree, a ponderosa pine that is 268.35 ft (81.79 m) tall.
