Trans East Airlines was an airline that was based in Manchester, New Hampshire, and in New York City during the 1960s. It ceased its operations in 1972. [ 1 ] Trans East Airlines was the fixed-base operator (FBO) at Bangor International Airport in Bangor, Maine , beginning in 1968.
Bangor International Airport began as Godfrey Field in 1921, on land owned by local attorney Edward Rawson Godfrey (1877–1958). [citation needed] On August 19, 1923, 15 Martin Bombers and 11 DeHaviland Scout Planes under the command of Gen. Billy Mitchell — virtually the entire U.S. Army Air Corps — landed there on a practice mission.
The Boston route proved popular and in 1972, now operating as Bar Harbor Airlines, the airline expanded its route system to five airports including an international route from Boston to Quebec City via Portland and Bangor, Maine. [4] By 1974, the airline offered round-trip services between each city it served.
Formerly the flex-route Brunswick Explorer, the service was relaunched in 2021 as a fixed-route version. The service is run by Western Maine Transportation Services (WMTS) and has 27 stops. The route begins hourly from Brunswick's Amtrak station and connects to the BlueLine Commuter service and the Metro BREEZ express bus to and from Portland. [22]
