A tornado also formed in Nassau, killing a 15-month-old child, and injuring two others. It was rated an EF1, with winds of over 100 mph (160 km/h) being reported from an anemoter near the tornado. However, the strongest winds in the Bahamas directly linked to the hurricane was in West End, Grand Bahama where winds got to 90 mph (140 km/h).

[2] On the eastern side of the island is the national capital city of Nassau; it had a population of 246,329 at the 2010 Census, and a population of 292,522 at the 2022 census.
The 1886 season was approximately average, featuring 12 tropical storms compared to the more modern 1981–2010 annual average of 12.1. [5] The number of hurricanes, however, was well above average, with 10 forming compared to the latest 1991–2020 annual average of 7.2. [6]
The final storm of the season was first observed on October 28 over the Bahamas, and may have been a hybrid or subtropical cyclone. It moved north-northwestward through the island chain, followed by a turn to the north-northeast over the western Atlantic. Several ships encountered the tropical storm, and one lost their supply of molasses. [2]
