The Solon Community School District is a rural public school district based in Solon, Iowa. The district is mainly in Johnson County, with a small area in Linn County, and serves the town of Solon and surrounding areas, including the area around Lake MacBride. Solon High School students are perennially recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program. The class of 2021 had 19 Solon High School students named as National Merit Finalists and 14 Commended Students, while the class of 2022 had 34 Semi-Finalists and 16 Commended students. [10] This was the highest number in Ohio. [11]
The Solon City School District has also gained recognition for its Science Olympiad and Academic Challenge [12] teams. Among numerous other awards, the Solon Middle School Science Olympiad has taken 1st place at the past six national tournaments (2008-2013), and Solon High School has placed 1st at the past three national tournaments(2011-2013).
Solon Schools have also received honors such as the Red Quill [26] and Red Quill Legacy [27] awards for multiple years in a row from the ACT organization. Solon Schools have also received the National Blue Ribbon School recognition, considered to be one of the highest honors for American schools, many times over the past few decades.

The two-division setup fell through when Kenston, Orange, Solon, Twinsburg, and West Geauga left to form the Western Reserve Conference in 1996 with members of the Metro League. Chardon would ultimately end up in the Premier Athletic Conference. This left the CVC with the eight schools meant to be its smaller division.
In 2018 the Cannon Ball elementary building had a lack of insulation and bug infestation issues. That year the school district received a $5 million federal grant to rebuild the school.
