Soraya Manutchehri (Persian: ثریا منوچهری, romanized: Soraya Manuchehri; the "t" in the transcription by Sahebjam followed French spelling rules; c.1951 – 15 August 1986) was a 35-year-old woman who was stoned to death in the small village of Kuhpayeh, Iran, after being accused of adultery.
He gained international recognition for his novel La Femme Lapidée, in 1990, about Soraya Manutchehri, which was translated four years later as The Stoning of Soraya M.: A True Story. The book became the basis for screenplay of the 2008 film The Stoning of Soraya M., in which the American actor James Caviezel portrays Sahebjam.
It is the second collaboration between Nowrasteh and Caviezel, following The Stoning of Soraya M. (2008). [4] Both films deal with corruption and human rights abuses by the Iranian regime , and center on foreign journalists (played by Caviezel) whose rights are infringed upon and violated by the Iranian antagonists .
