You Hee-yeol (Korean: 유희열; born April 19, 1971) [1] is a South Korean singer-songwriter, radio disk jockey, and the host of You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook. He is the founder of the record label Antenna Music and the sole member of the project band Toy .
Toy started as a duo of You Hee-yeol and Yoon Jeong-oh, and was named after their two initials 'Y', as in Two + Y = Toy. However, after releasing Toy's debut album, Yoon Jeong-oh left the band to study overseas and You Hee-yeol joined the navy for his mandatory military service. You Hee-yeol has been the sole member of Toy since 1996. [2]
From 2013 to 2017, You Hee-yeol served as a judge on Seasons 3–6 of the reality television competition show K-pop Star. During this time, Sam Kim, Kwon Jin-ah, Jung Seung-hwan, Lee Jin-ah and Lee Soo-jung signed to the label after successfully auditioning for the program and finishing in the top three of their respective seasons. You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook (Korean: 유희열의 스케치북) is a South Korean talk show and live music television program airing from April 24, 2009, until July 22, 2022. It was hosted by You Hee-yeol, [1] also known as his one-man band, Toy. The program has aired since April 24, 2009.
The cast members formed a special girl group named "Unnies" (Korean: 언니쓰; RR: Eonnisseu) and released a Park Jin-young-produced single titled "Shut Up", featuring You Hee-yeol, in July 2016. After completing his military service in the Air Force, Kim Yeon-woo participated in the 7th Annual Yoo Jae-ha Music Competition and won the gold prize.
