I spooled up a couple reels with it and on the first cast I noticed something very good! The line came off the spool smoother than any line I have ever used!. I use 12 foot rods for long distance casting and I was also getting about 10-15 yds more in my casting distance with less effort.
I use #2 pure copper wire and an old Army surplus hand crank generator that puts out enough voltage to run a 40 watt bulb which illuminates the wire and allows me to see the shocked fish when they pop to the surface. :0a24: :0a10: OOOps wrong thread!!!!!
The size line you put on your reel has to be related to the type of fishing you do. If you fish from a boat 20-40 if fine. If you only bank fish and need max distance, then 20-40 will not do it for you. I bank fish in the Mississippi around the Alton Dam with 12' rods and 7000C3's, so I need distance and with advice from Tiny, I spool with ...

The Trilene Big Game leader line runs about 10.00 for 55 yards of 50 lb....the Trilene Big Game fishing line 50 lb runs about 7.00 for 275 yards. Because of twaskom's (Tom's) stated performance in the field, and the tests I have subjected both lines to, I have no reservations about using Trilene Big Game fishing line as a leader line, or a ...
Years ago I had a bad run with stren line. We were having fish break the line at the knot. Happened several times with a couple different batches of line, bought at a couple different places, reckon somethingabout the makeup of the line, just didnt hold good at knots, it would break at any knot point.
The Abu 6500 is rated to hold 245 yards of 14lb line. With 50lb mono, you will only get maybe 60-80 yards on the spool. I assume you are looking at 50lb because you are after some big catfish. Chances are they will pull some drag, especially from a 6500...
I run my spool tension knobs loose to fling baits a country mile so my spool is a tad loose And has play side to side. But when I was running 15 pound line on my 209 that line would constantly get caught behind the spool and frame.ive never used braid on them just because of that.running thick mono on my 209s now.they hold alot of 40 pound big ...

Second match the outfit to the size fish you are targeting and the type of water you are fishing. This I mean if you are fishing heavy timber or around rocks you will want to beef it up ...
1532 posts · Joined 2005. #4 · Aug 13, 2006. I use Big Game 15 and 20 lb. My leader is 30lb. If I caught fish over 25 lbs consistently, I'd probably go to at least a 50 lb leader. The main reason for heavier lines isn't so much that the fish is going to break the line, but often catfish are found where there's a lot of structure. The abrasion ...
