Origins (DAO) is the first - and widely regarded as the best. Awakening (DAA) is its expansion pack, and there are a couple of other post-Awakening DLCs that might interest you - Golems of Amgarrak and Witch Hunt. DA2 is the second game, and it also has a couple of worthy DLCs.

Yup, start with Origins ! It's a bit old, but there's a lot of mods and they're pretty easy to install. The more importants for a first playthrough would be the Unofficial HD Remaster ( just to refresh the game a little bit ) and Quinn's Ultimate bug fixes. If you don't start with the first game, you could be easily lost with the lore.
Play it after you finish Leliana's companion quest in the main game. It's not completely canon but will spoil some of her backstory story for you. As for the other DLCs -- I'd complete Stone Prisoner as soon as possible, Warden's Keep after the Circle's story and Return to Ostagar towards the end of the game. 1.
Get the first one. It very much holds up! I still think Origins is the best game in the trilogy, and many people agree with that. You should get the Ultimate Edition. Dragon age 2 gets a lot of criticism, but I recommend playing it if you enjoy the first game and want to continue the story.
Dragon age origins is a great game that has aged pretty well all things considered, and dragon age 2 isn’t much older than inquisition. There’s tons of callbacks, lore, and it’s all around just a great experience. It’s not necessarily by any means, but if you enjoy inquisition you’ll enjoy the older games. Reply reply.

No see that would make sense what the story says is it takes place one year after hawke arrived in Kirkwall which after running around after escaping from lothering being destroyed and a few bit of time travelling there it be about some time in the middle of origins story so one year after the mid point of origins which is about the time awakening supposed to be ...
You should play DA:O before playing DA2, but you could play DA:I independently of the other two games. There are very few references to the first two games and they are fairly incidental.
It's an old series. You play them in order. Origins then it's DLC, 2 then it's DLC, then Inquisition and it's DLC. Like yes, you can technically play 2 without playing origins, but you can't play 3 without playing either of the first 2. So just play them in order. Origins, DLC (awakening) Dragon Age 2, DLC (Legacy)
The show is not an adaptation, but it does involve the lore. The games are the main source of the lore. Dragon age origins is the first and most popular game, it is a classic. But it may look unregonizable since the setting has changed since then, and Dragon age inquisition, also well liked, may be a better start as it resembles the show the most.
