Clay is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Clay Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located along U.S. Route 322 between Brickerville and Ephrata. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,559. [3]
At the 2000 census there were 920 people in 370 households, including 283 families, in the township. The population density was 32.6 inhabitants per square mile (12.6/km 2 ). There were 494 housing units at an average density of 17.5/sq mi (6.8/km 2 ).
On Sunday, March 29, 2009, at approximately 4:40 pm, an EF-1 tornado touched down in Clay Township. The tornado damaged 40 homes and other buildings, and was on the ground for 1.25 miles (2.01 km). The tornado then dissipated, and the storm continued northeastward into Berks County.
