Ko Samet is part of the Phe (Thai: เพ) Subdistrict of the Amphoe Mueang Rayong (Thai: เมืองระยอง, the capital district, or Amphoe Mueang), of Rayong Province. Ko Samet is a popular tourist island, not far from Bangkok, 10 km (6.2 mi) off the coast of Ban Phe', Rayong. Concerns have been growing about the oil spill and the inconsistent information released.
