The hospital has its origins in the Kincardineshire Joint Isolation Hospital which was designed by Brown & Watt and opened in August 1903. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] It joined the National Health Service in 1948 and incorporated the James Mowat Nursing Home, which had been located in an adjacent private house, in 1961.
In August 2011 the Provincial Government of Ontario approved plans to completely remodel the whole hospital. The project will begin in 2015 with a total cost of an estimated $104 million(CDN). Update: In 2012 the approved plan to remodel the hospital were cancelled by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
