Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in the town and military cantonment of Mhow (now officially known as Dr Ambedkar Nagar, Madhya Pradesh). [9] He was the 14th and last child of Ramji Maloji Sakpal , an army officer who held the rank of Subedar , and Bhimabai Sakpal, daughter of Laxman Murbadkar. [ 10 ]

Ambedkar died at the bungalow on 6 December 1956. [4] Savita Ambedkar continued to live there, and Ambedkar's papers remained in a storeroom. In 1966, Madan Lal Jain purchased the bungalow: he allowed Savita Ambedkar to retain two rooms, gave one part of the building to his son-in-law, and rented another part to an Additional Sessions Judge.
