The Hockomock Swamp is a vast wetland encompassing much of the northern part of southeastern Massachusetts. This 16,950-acre (6,859 ha) [ 1 ] land is considered the largest freshwater swamp in the state.

There are also several other protected areas throughout the town, as well as several parks and a large pond surrounded by a state forest.
Lake Nippenicket is part of the Taunton River Watershed, emptying into the Town River and into the Taunton River, and a good-size portion of it is included with the Hockomock Swamp Wildlife Management Area. The lake is named after a Native American tribe from that area. [citation needed]
