I am on the seventh day of a 10 day rx of amoxicillin. It took 4 or 5 days to start feeling better after the antibiotic (and I'd been sick for 5 days before going on it). I know antibiotics are often prescribed for 7 days and want to stop this one because I got a yeast infection on day 2 and am developing another one now.
Has anyone given their child amoxicillin after they’ve gotten amoxicillin rash? My 8 yo needed an antibiotic today and the doctor pointed out that our options were limited. My daughter would rather take antibiotic pills if possible. We ended up with banana cherry generic Zithromax liquid. I was told that the amoxicillin rash is not a true ...
Children can inherit a propensity to allergic reactions for any antibiotic, true, but avoiding Amoxicillin doesn't avoid that. It's just that we use Amoxicillin so widely in pediatrics -- because it is generally safe and effective for many child bacterial illnesses -- that Amoxicillin is what people report as a reaction. From Mayo Clinic:
My daughter (10 months) broke out with a rash (looks like hives) on day 7 of treatment with amoxicillian for an ear infection. She is on benadryl and an oral steroid, but she still seems so itchy, swollen, and uncomfortable. The doctor said it could last 10 days. If you have been through this, did it really last 10 days?
Full body rash. Annoying, but tolerable. I last took it last night (after the rash started but I was worried about stopping). I skipped this morning and it’s still bad 24 hours later after last dose. I shouldn’t take it tonight right? I’ll call the doctor in the morning but curious about others’ experiences.

My DD previously had an amoxicillin rash, and since they felt it wasn't an allergy they gave it to her again when she developed another sinus infection. Well, she has another amoxicillinnrash. We're taking her in so they can see the rash, but I read online that it's unlikely to happen each time a kid takes it.
My one year old just developed a full body rash after finishing his 10th day of amox. He is itchy around ears and head (particularly at bedtime), but otherwise in an ok mood. Dr thinks it's just a "side effect" of the amox (NOT an allergic reaction), but want to see him to check whether the ear infection went away.
