Lower Mettur Hydroelectric Project is a hydropower generation project in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a 120MW power generation project constructed across the Kaveri River . The project area is in the downstream of Mettur Dam , hence it derives the name.
A pico hydro system made by the Sustainable Vision project from Baylor University [1]. Pico hydro is a term used for hydroelectric power generation of under 5 kW. These generators have proven to be useful in small, remote communities that require only a small amount of electricity – for example, to power one or two fluorescent light bulbs and a TV or radio in 50 or so homes. [2]
Most hydroelectric power comes from the potential energy of dammed water driving a water turbine and generator. The power extracted from the water depends on the volume and on the difference in height between the source and the water's outflow. This height difference is called the head.
It is a 90MW power generation project constructed across the Kaveri River. The project area is in the downstream of Lower Mettur Hydroelectric Project. This project consists of three power plants which are located between Bhavani and Pasur, Erode. This hydropower generation project is owned by Government of Tamil Nadu and operated by TANGEDCO. [1]
To cope with increasing power demand, the United States Bureau of Reclamation proposed the Eklutna Project. It included raising the dam and installing a new power plant opposite Goat Mountain to the north, along the Knik River. The United States Congress authorized the project on 31 July 1950. Construction began in 1951 and raising the dam ...
The Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project was a Nepal national priority project. When it is operated at full capacity, it is the largest hydroelectric plant in Nepal, with a power output equivalent to two-thirds of Nepal's current power generation. [4] [5] The project was entirely financed from domestic financial institutions and companies.
The project cost $1 billion and it was dedicated on 9 October 1995. [4] An upgrade of the power station was completed in 2011 which increased the installed generating capacity of each turbine-generator from 283 megawatts (380,000 hp) to 365 megawatts (489,000 hp).
Small hydro is the development of hydroelectric power on a scale suitable for local community and industry, or to contribute to distributed generation in a regional electricity grid. [1] Exact definitions vary, but a "small hydro" project is less than 50 megawatts (MW), and can be further subdivide by scale into "mini" (<1MW), " micro " (<100 ...
