Hailing from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, Melanson was a drifter and con artist who spent a majority of his life in various prisons. Some of his earliest offenses include burglaries and rapes in Orange and Jefferson County, Texas, for the latter of which he was given 12 years imprisonment, but served only half of it.

The Alexander Funeral Home is the oldest African American owned business in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Alexander Funeral Home was founded by Zechariah Alexander in 1914 when Alexander bought half of Coles and Smith Undertakes. In 1927 Alexander purchased the remaining part of the business and changed the name to the Alexander Funeral Home.

Joseph Arsenne Breaux (February 18, 1838 – July 26, 1926) was an associate justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court from 1890 to 1904, serving as chief justice from 1904 to 1914, and a reformer in education. Breaux was of Acadian descent. He was the son of Jean Baptiste Breaux and his wife, the former Margaret Walsh, who was raised by Comeaux.
