Lincoln Public Schools was founded in 1923, and is the second largest public school district in the U.S. state of Nebraska, located in the heart of the Great Plains. The school district of over 42,000 students is home to more than 70 schools and programs. [1] The current superintendent is Dr. Paul Gausman, who joined LPS on July 1, 2022.
Lexington's two public middle schools - William Diamond MS and Jonas Clarke MS, commonly referred to as "Diamond" and "Clarke," respectively - serve students between 6th and 8th grade. North Star was originally supposed to be named Lincoln Northwest; at the time, every high school in Lincoln Public Schools was named after a direction depending on their respective location, with the exception of Lincoln High. Before the school opened, the students voted on the name North Star. The school's colors are navy blue and burgundy/maroon.
More than 40,000 students have graduated from Lincoln High in its 153-year history. [2] The school colors are red and black, and the mascot is the Links. Its mascot is memorialized in a statue on the school's front lawn, gifted by the class of 1970, with four individual links chained together.
LPHS has a student-to-teacher ratio of 35:1 [5] and was given a rating of "C" as of 2010 it has been given a "B" by the Michigan Department of Education in 2007–2008. [6] As of the class of 2011, LPHS has a graduation rate of 63.5% (starting with about 490 students, now having about 232) [ 7 ] and an attendance rate of 75%.
As part of a recent $250 million school improvement bond issue, renovations were planned for Southeast and are now finished. Renovations included the expansion of the cafeteria, the replacement of the roofing and windows, renovation of the performing arts wing, new classroom additions, new heating and air conditioning systems, and various exterior fixes.
London Park School Mayfair (formerly Eaton Square Senior School) is a co-educational, independent day school for ages 11–16.Students move on to LPS Sixth in Belgravia, where they are joined by students from the sister school LPS Clapham and from other schools.
