Announcement by Arthur Vicars in The Dublin Gazette of the mourning dress required of visitors to Dublin Castle after the 1901 death of Queen Victoria. In 1670, when Elisha Leighton became Chief Secretary for Ireland, he began a gazette in Dublin, but stopped after a few months because there was "so little news to 'stuff '" it.

The Irish Land Commission was created by the British crown in 1843 to "inquire into the occupation of the land in Ireland. The office of the commission was in Dublin Castle, and the records were, on its conclusion, deposited in the records tower there, from whence they were transferred in 1898 to the Public Record Office". Cuffe Street was named after James Cuffe, and first appears on maps in 1728.Buildings are shown along the north side of the street on Herman Moll's map of 1714. [3] On John Rocque's map of Dublin in 1756, it is Great Cuffe Street.
