Fort Zarah was established near a ranch (trading post) where the Santa Fe Trail crossed Walnut Creek. The ranch was established in 1855 and was known as the Allison/Boothe Ranch, the Peacock Ranch, the Rath Ranch, or the Douglas trading post, depending on who operated it. The Great Bend Aspect is the region occupied by the Wichita people from 1475 to 1700 [1] in modern day Kansas. The Great bend aspect consists of habitation sites in what are now known as McPherson, Butler, Rice, Marion, Cowley, and Wilson counties. [1] In addition to this, there were several village clusters throughout the great bend aspect.
