Municipalities often adopt revisions of the code after years of review and amendments, making many local fire codes specific to their governing authorities.
The Knoxville Fire Department can trace its beginnings to 1854 when Town Marshal J.D. Stacks saw the need for an organized volunteer fire department. [3] But it was in March 1885 when the city of Knoxville formed a full-time, paid fire department. By the turn of the century, the number of firefighters in the department had grown to 30. [3]
New York state senator John Brooks introduced a bill in the State Senate in 2019 which would criminalize the recreational use of flamethrowers, while permitting use "for agricultural, construction, or historical collection purposes." As of March 2022, this bill is in the Rules Committee and appears to be stalled.
