Motijheel (Bengali: মতিঝিল, romanised: Motijhil) is an elevated metro station of the Dhaka Metro Rail's MRT Line 6. This station is located in the area of Dilkusha towards Motijheel . It commenced operations on 5 November 2023.
The line is entirely elevated and currently has 16 stations operational in service between Uttara North and Motijheel. [3] The line was built as a proposal of a mass rapid transit system in Dhaka by the Review Committee of the Strategic Transport Plan and the Urban Traffic Formulation Study.
According to local tradition, the area is named after Mughal emperor Shah Jahan who reportedly spent time here in the year 1624 prior to his ascension to the throne. [4] [3] In 2012, Shahjahanpur Thana was formed after splitting from Motijheel Thana, becoming the 47th thana of Dhaka metropolitan area. [5]
