Otego is a town located in the southwest portion of Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 3,115 at the 2010 census. The name is a native word meaning "where there is fire." The Town of Otego is on the southern border of the county and contains a village by the same name, Otego. The town and village are southwest of Oneonta.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km 2), of which 1.0 square mile (2.6 km 2) is land and 1.00% is water. NY-17, NY-17M and NY-32 connect in the village. New York Route 17, US Route 6, and Interstate 87 (New York State Thruway) connect north of the village.
Neighboring New York towns are Constable to the west, Malone to the southwest, Bellmont to the south, and Chateaugay to the east. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 44.4 square miles (115.0 km 2), all land. [5] U.S. Route 11 is an important east-west highway across the central part of the town.
