    These kind of pop-ups are fake alerts, trying to scam you into buying needless services/products. Never ever call those phone numbers or fill in passwords etc. If you can't close your browser in a normal way: Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard) and in the tab Processes end all browser processes.

    Report abuse. This happened to me as well. I was using a youtube downloader website (<removed by Moderator>) and had just pressed download when it popped up, as well as telling me my laptop had been disabled. It looked official and told me to call a toll-free number, 833-743-3632, so I did.

    The '253' area code was spoofed. The call did not come from Auburn Washington. The caller tries to bully the victim into 1.. letting them have access to the computer.. and 2.. threatening to change passwords or disable the computer in some way unless the victim pays $200 by credit card for a year's 'protection'.

    You can be 100% sure that this is a scam. He's not from Microsoft; they will never call you unless you call them and request a callback. They're fishing for money for fake repairs and/or access to your computer. Tell them you don't know anyone named "Microsoft", your windows are all closed, thank them, and hang up.
